跌落式避雷器作用在于雷电击中架空线路时通过避雷器与导线之间形成的串联，能在瞬间有效地截断工频续流，避免发生雷击断线事故可有效减少因雷击造成的线路开关跳闸。跌落式避雷器在后端安装有脱离器,利用工频短路电流让出现异常的避雷器自动翻落,退出运行防止事故扩大,并易于维护人员及时发现进行维护和更换。
