后备保护熔断器是美式箱变过流保护的主要元件，与双敏熔丝串联使用，构成“双熔断器保护”方案。它是油浸式限流型熔断器，用来保护变压器内部故障（线圈短路保护），通常不动作，后备保护熔断器装置最大开断电流为50kA。
